Pine is very soft wood, so it would probably end up with a lot of those dings in it.

It was a limited run for 2017 but they are either not selling or they made a lot more than 300 because most dealers I've been to recently have a number of them going unsold.

I've tried a few and I really like them with a few reservations. Tone wise the Lollar Charlie Christian neck pickup sounds amazing especially when paired with the right amp. The bridge pickup I'm not so fond of, it's bright but to my ears it's missing some that bell like chime that sets Telecasters apart.

I like the look of the old pine, but I like the maple used in the neck more. It's quite distinctive on all the guitars I've seen. Visually I'm not particular fond of the Lollar or the modern Fender tuning pegs but that's of no real consequence. One thing to be aware of, the frets are quite skinny which I really like but most people don't.

So yeah, I like them and I've considered buying one myself.

New pine is very soft... but pine that has aged for a while (and this stuff is supposed to be 100+ years old) has a tendency to harden (and in some cases become brittle).

Yep, it was a 2017 limited run for several of their guitars... and no, they aren't selling that great as most people don't like the look - and that's usually what a guitar gets purchased on by many of the buyers, not the sound. Many buyers are a "vain" individual and looks is more important.

The nice thing is... if I don't like it I can simply drive 1.5 hour round trip and return it and also stop off and grab a good meal while in Tyler. ;)

I've got an email in to them asking about the damage on the back that is shown and if they will adjust the price... but haven't heard back yet.

They are probably still looking for it :giggle:

I think I've said before I rarely end up with guitars I like the look of but I do quite like these and I particularly like the fact that they are all unique.

Got a generic response back that "This guitar will arrive manufacturer sealed, shipped from our distribution center." with no comment as to the ding in the back being other than not original.

Yeah, but before I lay down 2 grand I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't have to be taking a 2 hour round trip to return it if it did.

I'm still debating on getting it... or grabbing a Fender Limited Edition Vintage '52 Korina Telecaster from them. I think it's going to be a 2015 model (as it was apparently limited to that year).
Sounds pretty good.


And yes, I realize that the Korina body was not standard on this guitar (it was ash) but I do like the fatter sound and more sustain that it seems to give.
They are both the same price.... but I've never tried a U shaped neck on the Fender so don't know how I will like it.

Of course, there is always the American Vintage '52 Telecaster instead of the korina bodied... and it saves about $200. Much lighter from my reading also.
Little different than the American Professional I currently have in the neck and the pickups and also has a nitro finish.

Just to many damned guitars I like but can't afford to grab all of 'em!

It's kind of a mix of some old and some new and has a poly finish. I really do like it. I'm seriously tempted to get rid of the MiM Tele I have after I've gotten a little better, but it's not a bad guitar itself.

And then that leads me to wanting a Fender specific amp... kind of digging the Vintage Reissue '65 Deluxe Reverb.

Forgot to comment on this... my current American already has the thin frets... and I've found that I kind of like them better than the medium jumbo's on my FSE Tele (a MiM).

That kind of reply suggests a box shifter rather than a specialist musical instrument supplier. That's ridiculous when main attraction is the visually unique appearance of each guitar. I find the same, I don't particularly like Jumbo frets which puts me out of sync with majority of guitarists. While they might arguably give a slightly fatter sound with more sustain, to my ears they also sound off pitch. I also have more difficulty retaining a consistently clean sound as the distance between the frets gets smaller.

How do you feel about the radius on that compared to your LP? THe Nashville Tele I was interested in was a 12".
It's kind of toss-up.... but I'm not really that set into either one on the radius. Both are actually comfortable... but I'd lean a little more toward the LP for some reason. That guitar has a feel that to me is special.

The American Professional and the MiM I have are 9.5. The Vintage '52 is a 7.25, and I haven't had exposure to that neck radius honestly.... so it would be a first time experience. The LP is at 12 if I remember correctly, so there is a bit of a difference, but honestly my fingers don't have a preference on that as they just seem to adjust.

Yeah, but one of GC's big attractions is the 0% financing. They bank on the individual not being able to make a payment and then getting hit with all interest due... but I have no problems making the payments (usually make a quad payment each month) and look at it as free money.
As for a box shifter... yep, that they are for the online sales... their guitars come out of the same facility that the ones from Musicians Friends do. I noticed that one day when I got the last Breedlove in that it shipped from the same place that one of the guitars before it came from Musicians Friends. Confused me for a minute as the shipping labels were the same, one just was from GC and the other from MF.

While they might arguably give a slightly fatter sound with more sustain, to my ears they also sound off pitch.
Well, since my ears are sorta shot, I can't really tell that much of a difference in sound... I have to go more by the feel. ;)

I find 7.25" necks very much not to my liking. While it's probably true they are more comfortable to play (barre) chords on, choking on string bends is almost inevitable unless you raise the action to a height that ironically makes those chords hard to play. I think I've mentioned before I get my guitar tech to flatten off the mid section of the upper frets in an effort to achieve a good compromise which is not really something you want to be doing on a $25,000+ vintage Strat.

Well, since my ears are sorta shot, I can't really tell that much of a difference in sound... I have to go more by the feel. ;)
So are mine plus I have tinnitus but I was also born with perfect pitch which is both a blessing and a curse. I can still hear stuff that irritates me. For example fret positioning is a compromise. A properly tuned guitar will have multiple notes up and down the fret board that are out of tune and some of them, especially those at the bottom end where my hearing is still working, sound way off.

I know I'm not the only one who has this issue, here's one solution to it which believe it or not is for real.

Thought for a minute my vision had gone bad and needed to call the optometrist today to schedule an appointment.
I can see where that would work... but changes with the guitar over time (all natural) would probably invalidate some of those placements?

I'm not really sure because there are so many factors that come into play. Intonation, fret width at the crown and wear will all play a part. Simply putting too much pressure on a string will have a profound effect on the pitch. That's one reason I use thicker strings for recording. Ironically classical musicians used to bend strings on fretted instruments in order to try and compensate for flat notes.

To be honest the majority of people including a large proportion of musicians probably don't hear the problem or choose not to hear it but I hear it all the time and sometimes it really bugs me, especially on recordings.
